Shiva is the week of mourning after a Jewish funeral, when the family stays at home and receives visitors. Food is the traditional shiva gift.
Flowers are not part of a traditional Jewish funeral or shiva, and religious families usually do not expect them. Many secular families in Israel, and Russian-speaking families especially, welcome flowers. If you are not sure, ask the family first.
Israelis often write “Lo tede’u od tza’ar” (לא תדעו עוד צער), “May you know no more sorrow”. The traditional words are “HaMakom yenachem etchem” (המקום ינחם אתכם), “May God comfort you”.
We deliver to the home between 11 am and 7 pm Israel time, Sunday to Friday. Shiva pauses for Shabbat, and so do we.
