Seasonal flowers
Lilac needs a cold winter to flower, so it is a flower of the spring in colder countries rather than of the Israeli coast. Cut lilac is still available for part of the year. When we have it, the bouquets with lilac appear below and in the shop.
Most cut lilac sold by florists is grown in the Netherlands, where growers force lilac into flower out of season. Forcing is slow and the woody stems are heavy to ship, which is why lilac costs more than most flowers.
Lilac lasts a short time in a vase, often around four days. Cut the woody stems at an angle, give them plenty of fresh water and keep them cool and out of the sun.
Mostly from November to May: forced Dutch lilac through the winter, then the natural spring season in April and May.
Not long: often around four days in a vase. Fresh water and a cool room help.
Only in season. These flowers have short seasons, and when we have them, the bouquets with them appear in the shop. When each is in season: peonies, lilac, lily of the valley.
